Vacation schemes and training contracts are very crucial for Law students. It is a step towards your legal career. However, applying to these schemes and researching can get a bit confusing. Therefore there are several resources online that can be used when researching law firms and applying for vacation schemes or training contracts to help make your application stand out.
The starting point is looking at websites such as BrightNetwork, LawCareers.net, Legal Cheek, and more. These sites provide an overview of a career in law and are great as a starting point for research. These websites are set out in such a way that it is easy to analyze, they provide basic information about law firms, explain the different practice areas, offer tips on how to succeed at interviews, applications, and assessment centers as well as have dedicated pages for legal opportunities and upcoming deadlines.
You might be wondering what are the next steps? To gain more specific information about a law firm or a practice area, websites such as Legal 500, Chambers, and The Lawyer will be of extreme use to you. Another element that also helps is applying and attending webinars and workshops. This is a great way to gain a better insight into a practice area or to learn more about a law firm. A number of these workshops and webinars are free and offered by law firms or platforms such as BrightNetwork or professional education providers like BPP. Many universities also provide these webinars and workshops which are beneficial to attend.
Social Media is a great platform to find out information about legal events and law firm applications. LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter are good sources to use to find out more specific law firms. Several law firms have trainees or graduate recruiters answer questions on Instagram stories and share tips to succeed in the application process. Additionally, following law firm pages on LinkedIn and Twitter as well as following senior partners and graduate recruitment, will also be beneficial as they often can share announcements, key deadlines for application submissions as well as developments within their key practice areas.
